"Main" Street Location Goes to Auction

On Monday, August 3, at 9:30 a.m., 542 Gage Street in Blue Hill will be sold at auction. The former bar and bowling alley has change ownership and atmosphere several times over the past thirty years. The location has operated as Sunset Lanes (Rose Hargis), Breck's Bar (Breckner), Tommy's (Tommy Toms), KD's (Dennis Kinickman) and, most recently, Patty's Place. The facility has been vacant for the last four plus years. The property is comfortably nestled in the Blue Hill business district between Thramer's Food Center and Main Street Styles. Comment below and let us know what type of business you would like to see (or you think would be successful) in this downtown location. Feed & Seed Store? Bar? Restaraunt? Sub Shop? Bowling Alley? Dance Hall? Clothing Store? Dollar Store? Office Space? Youth Center? Day Care Center? Movie Theater? Learning Annex? Pool Hall? Shoe Store? Art Gallery? Old Time Brothel? No idea too crazy. Let us know what you think? What is your wish list for Blue Hill?

I think it would make a good spot for a pizza parlor, with a game room and internet cafe. I think this would benifit the community for the youth. Giving them a place to gather, get something to eat and just hang out. As well as access to the internet.

I think the pizza parlor idea is good, it would definitely benefit our youth.

I think a dollar store for household stuff that we dont have here and we have to drive to get.

A second hand store would be interesting. It'd be like a garage sale all year round. I get tired of taking all my stuff to Goodwill. I know so many people that swap clothes, it would be nice to make a little money back on your gently used clothes.

A decent place to go for supper would be nice, we don't have that now.

I don't think the community could go wrong by turning it into a youth center. Offer Tutoring in the evenings. Show movies on the big screen TV on the weekends. Offer social activites like pool, video games, have nights set aside for game night ie scrabble, trivia, card games. Get the kids interacting one on one face to face something they have forgotten how to do with the introduction of computers, cell phones, facebook, and myspace. Offer tumbling, karate or other activites that get the kids moving and not just sitting around. So many possibliites I hope the community can take advanatge of and not just let another buildign go to waste.

These first six comments are great. I hope I win the lottery between now and August 3rd so we can make them come true.

Definitely a place for our youth...We had this when the bowling alley was located there and it was the place to be on a Saturday night. Hamburgers, french fries, and malts...video games...dances...pool, etc.
