Exhibitors Report from Webster County Fair
The Webster County Fairgrounds in Bladen, NE have been filled with activity for the past week. What has been your favorite part of the fair? How have your exhibits done? Austin Rose dropped by the booth on Thursday afternoon. Austin had received a purple ribbon and won his class in Beef Showmanship. Austin still had Beef exhibits to show on Friday. Austin has been exhibiting at the Webster County Fair for five years and is a third generation of Rose's to have been Webster County Fair Exhibitors. Austin says the best parts of the Webster County Fair are the rodeo, carnival and just "hanging out with friends". Austin will be a 6th grader at Blue Hill this fall. Austin is the son of Jeff and Terri Rose of Cowles.
Dakota Lovett's exhibited both pigs and goats and also had a disaster kit project for the Webster County Fair. Dakota was a Reserve Champion Swine Showman and had the Reserve Champion Market Goat. Dakota's goat won the rate of gain contest. He also received Reserve Champion in the Best Dressed Goat contest with his "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" outfit. Dakota will be a 7th grader at Blue Hill this fall. Dakota is the son of Jeff & Sandy Lovett of rural Blue Hill.
Tristan Kelley says that he has had a great time showing his market steer. Tristan is a first year exhibitor. Tristan received a blue ribbon on Wednesday in Showmanship and also received a blue ribbon on Friday with his market steer. Tristan is looking forward to attending the rodeo and carnival this weekend. Tristan will be a 4th grader at Blue Hill this fall. Tristan is the son of Thad and Denise Kelley of Blue Hill.
Austin Kelley is in his third year of exhibiting at the Webster County Fair. Austin received blue ribbons in both Beef Showmanship and for his market steer. Austin says showing his steers is the best part of the fair, but he is also looking forward to enjoying the rides and rodeo this weekend. Austin will be a 5th grader at Blue Hill this fall. Austin is the son of Rose Kelley & Jesse Alber of Blue Hill and Allen Jones of Beatrice.
Chyanna Sharp is this years Reserve Junior Sheep Showman. She also presented the Champion Yearling Ewe, Aged Ewe, Ram and Breeder's Flock at the Webster County Sheep Show. Chyanna received a blue ribbon for her market lamb. Chyanna received a blue ribbon for beef showmanship and a purple ribbon and second in her class with her bred & fed market steer. Chyanna is in her fourth year of exhibiting at the Webster County Fair. She will be a seventh grader at Blue Hill this fall. Chyanna says showing her livestock and the rodeo are the best parts of the fair. She is the daughter of Vicki & Andy Alber and Jay Sharp all of Blue Hill.
Colin Brown brought art exhibits in felting, weaving and sewing. All of Colin's exhibits were selected to go on to represent Webster County at the State Fair. Colin is in his 5th year of 4-H and will be a 5th grader at Blue Hill in the fall. He enjoys the rodeo. Colin is the son of Jim & Kristi Brown of Blue Hill.
Dalton Sweeley exhibited horses at this years fair. Dalton is a fan of the demolition derby. He will be a 5th grader at Blue Hill this fall. He is the son of Dave & Janelle Sweeley of rural Blue Hill.
Christa Alber wins our busiest exhibitor award. Christa had exhibits in Beef, Poultry, Baking, Sewing, Mixed Media Art, Clothing & Style, Modeling, Music and more. Christa is a purple ribbon beef showman and got first in her class of yearling breeding heifers. She got blues with another breeding heifer and a feeder calf. She received a blue ribbon in poultry showmanship, a blue for her broiler trio, and two blues for her hens. Christa also showed the grand champion broiler and the reserve champion rooster. Christa received blue ribbons for her coffee cake, decorated cake and poppy seed bread. The coffee cake will advance to State Fair. In other exhibits, she received a red for mixed media painting, a blue for make one - buy one, a purple for shopping in style and decorate your duds, a blue for her cats, and a blue for her vocal presentation of "The River" at the music contest. Christa has been exhibiting for six years and thinks all these shows are the best part of the fair. Christa will be a freshman at Blue Hill this fall. She is the daughter of Dave and Tammy Alber of rural Blue Hill.
Eric Wademan will be a third grader this fall in Blue Hill. He is in his first year as a 4-H member. Eric showed poultry, receiving two purples and two blues, his pet hermit crab which got him a purple, his potato dressed as a baby in the Best Dressed Veggie Contest got a blue, his peas got a red and his Snack Mix, which he had fun both making and eating got a purple. Making his best dressed veggie was Eric's favorite part of the fair. He is the son of Robert & Gayle Wademan of rural Blue Hill.
Jared Yelken is a Webster County 4-H exhibitor although he lives across the border in North Branch, Kansas. Jared brought Hank, his Border Collie to compete in the Webstwer County 4-H Dog Show. Jared (and Hank) received a blue in obedience, Champion in showmanship and Reserve Champion in agility. Jared is a first year exhibitor. Jared enjoys the carnival and rodeo and hopes to be back next year. He is the son of Scott and Lorie Yelkin.
