Duane DeLay, 76, of Blue Hill, Nebraska, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital, in Kearney, Nebraska. Services are Friday, July 12, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, Nebraska with Pastor Roberta Ganzer officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2013, from 3-9 p.m. at Merten-Butler Mortuary in Blue Hill
Duane DeLay was born on February 17, 1937, the son of Clifford H. and Ilene (Bailey) DeLay on a farm south of Guide Rock, Nebraska. He graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1955 where he was an all-state lineman in football. He married Harriet Yost in 1960 in Red cloud.
He farmed for a number of years near Guide Rock before he moved to Blue Hill, where he owned and operated DeLay construction until his death. Some of Duane's interests included camping, fishing and boating at the lake. Duane enjoyed spending time with his family. This was especially important to him.
Duane is survived by his daughters, Jani (Dave) Gentry, Lincoln, Nebraska, JoLynn (Brad) Ballou, Beaver city, Nebraska; and his son Jerry (Peggy) Delay, Phoenix Arizona; his sister Karen Delay, Alma, Nebraska and his brother bob Delay, Guide Rock, Nebraska; grandchildren, Sam and Alex Gentry, Jalin, Jaci and Joslyn Ballou and Emmylia Delay; special friend, Nancy Meadows, Blue Hill, Nebraska. Duane was preceded in death by his parents and his son Jim and a brother, Gene.
