DaNellda Conway, the daughter of Bessie (Arterburn) and Peter Thompson, was born April 27, 1920 at Bladen, Nebraska. She departed this life on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, 2 months and 12 days.
DeNellda received her formal education attending Grand Prairie rural school district northeast of Bladen and then Wheatland rural school west of town. She graduated in 1938 with a certificate in Normal Training from the Bladen High School and later continued her education at Kearney State College.
On November 26, 1942 she was united in marriage with Leo Francis Conway at Blue Hill. This union was blessed with six children. They made their home on the farm southeast of Campbell in the New Virginia township for 33 years. In 1979, they moved into Bladen to make their home. Leo died on October 15, 1986.
DeNellda taught rural school for a number of years and later worked as a cook at Grandview Manor in Campbell. She was also the assistant librarian at the elementary school for Silver Lake and helped with the pre-school program. For many years she volunteered her time with the Green Thumb Program. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, sewing, working with her flowers and garden and visiting with her many friends.
DeNellda was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her great love and enthusiasm in life was for her family and she especially cherished the time they spent together. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Campbell and after moving to Westgate at Blue Hill she attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leo; a son, Don; sister Betty Krueger and a brother, Orville Peter Thompson.
Left to treasure her memory are her children, Barbara Deplazes and husband John of Silver City, New Mexico; Jerry Conway of Hastings, Nebraska; Marilyn Zeilinger and husband Gary of David City, Nebraska; Jim Conway and wife Virginia of Geneva, Nebraska; Tom Conway and wife Kathy of Osborne, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Anita Conway of Lincoln, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren< a sisters, Patty Gifford of Franklin, Nebraska and LaVaughn Meyer of Lincoln, Nebraska; other relatives and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, 10:30 a.m., July 12, 2013 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Blue Hill with The Very Reverend James Schrader officiating. Interment will be at the Blue Hill Cemetery.
The rosary will be recited Thursday, 7:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud.
Visitation will be held Wednesday and Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established by the family.
