Youth Livestock Quality Assurance Meeting in Blue Hill March 11

If a 4-H or FFA member is planning on exhibiting beef, dairy, sheep, goats, rabbits, or poultry they must be certified for Youth Livestock Quality Assurance in order to show at county fair, Nebraska State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben. There will only be on one class this year in Webster County with the location based on the number of exhibitors who need their certification renewed this year. It will be held in Blue Hill on March 11 at the Blue Hill Community Schools Commons Area starting at 9:00 am. Exhibitors that were 12 or older last year and attended one of the complete sessions last year are good for two more years. Those under 12 must attend the short session each year. If an exhibitor is new or has not attended training in Webster County that qualifies them for the three year certificate or if it has been three years since they took training, then they must attend a meeting this year. Exhibitors may also test out each year for a one year certificate based on the year’s emphasis. The web-based learning site is located at http://assuringquality.unl.edu/ for preparing for the tests if and exhibitor wants to go that direction. Tests can be administered by the UNL Extension office or local FFA advisor. The FFA Advisor may also choose to present the Livestock Quality Assurance material as part of the animal science curriculum and then the ag students would also be qualified by their respective ag teacher/FFA Advisor for a time period determined by conference between the ag teacher and UNL Extension Office. There will also be another session offered at the Clay County Fairgrounds in Clay Center on April 25 at 9:00 am that 4-H and FFA exhibitors may also attend.
