Johanns Statement on President Missing Budget Deadline Johanns Statement on President Missing Budget Deadline

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) released the following statement today after President Obama failed to submit a budget to Congress on time:
“Today marks the fourth time in five years the president has missed the statutory deadline to present a budget. This comes at a time when our country continues to mount trillion-dollar budget deficits each year and we continue to spend our way into deeper and deeper debt. The President needs to provide the leadership the American people deserve and present a budget that will rein in spending and put our country back on a fiscally responsible path.”
Under the Budget and Accounting Act of 1921, today is the deadline for the Administration to submit a budget to Congress. The White House Press Secretary, however, said the President would miss this deadline and did not know when the budget for the next fiscal year would be released. The President has now missed the legal budget deadline line four times and this is the third consecutive time he has statutory deadline to present a budget. This comes at a time when our country continues to mount trillion-dollar budget deficits each year and we continue to spend our way into deeper and deeper debt. The President needs to provide the leadership the American people deserve and present a budget that will rein in spending and put our country back on a fiscally responsible path.”
