Johanns Statement: HHS continues to Violate Religious Freedom

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) released the following statement after the Obama Administration announced a so-called compromise for religious organizations with moral objections to providing insurance coverage for contraceptives and some abortion-inducing drugs:
“This decision does not address the bigger picture. This Administration continues to misunderstand that the heart of the issue is religious freedom and no American should be forced to violate their moral and religious beliefs. It is absurd to suggest insurance companies will simply offer these services for free. Americans will pay for this coverage through higher premiums, violating their moral beliefs and surrendering their religious freedom. That is a price too high.
“I call on the President to abandon this misguided mandate and restore the constitutional rights of every American.”
