(Omaha, Neb.) First Lady Sally Ganem is hosting colleagues this week as the National Governors Association (NGA) holds a meeting of the nation’s first spouses. The First Spouses Seminar starts today, Tuesday, May 3 in Omaha, and runs through Thursday, May 5.
“I am excited for the opportunity to host our nation’s first spouses in Nebraska,” Ganem said. “This is a chance to showcase Nebraska, our wonderful private partnerships and the great people of our state.”
Gov. Heineman is the current vice chair of NGA, serving with Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire, the current chair of the association. Gov. Gregoire’s spouse, Mike, will attend. He is the chair of the Spouses’ Leadership Committee with Ganem who is the vice chair.
The meeting provides governors’ spouses with opportunities to learn about the latest research, trends and activities in their areas of interest and to share experiences and advice with colleagues about their unique concerns and responsibilities.
The agenda includes visits to Educare of Omaha, a state-of-the-art early childhood center; a ConAgra tour; leadership training at Gallup; a Union Pacific event; a private tour of the United States Strategic Command; and tours of Arbor Day Farm and other sites in Nebraska City.
Founded in 1908, NGA is the collective voice of the nation’s governors and one of Washington, D.C.’s most respected public policy organizations. Its members are the governors of the 50 states, three territories and two commonwealths. NGA provides governors and their senior staff members with services ranging from representing states on Capitol Hill and before the Administration on key federal issues to developing and implementing innovative solutions to public policy challenges through the NGA Center for Best Practices.
