Open Forum

The Open Forum is your chance to say something, report breaking news or ask a question -- on any issue. Any topic is fair game, although Blue Hill Today's comment policies still apply. (see bottom of left hand column.) Our first Open Forum, from last week, had 8 comments including; local service man sends Christmas greetings, the health care debate, a birth announcement, quotes from Parker Griffith and Adrian Smith, Christmas eve church services, the Mayor, and trash disposal. Go ahead and sound off on anything. We are listening. A new Open Forum link will be re-posted every Monday (or there abouts) to keep it towards the top of the recent posts. Of course, your completed news article, news information, story idea, or suggestions to improve this site can still be sent to Blue Hill Today by e-mailing us at bluehilltoday@hotmail.com.

I would like to pose a question to readers. When is it acceptable to park ones car in a private driveway without permission of the owner of that drive way?
There is at least one person, a perfectly able bodied person, in this community who feels that it is acceptable behavior, at least for them.

Believe me, when I say that I was shocked to find that a silver, 4 wheel drive Toyota had been left smack dab in my driveway last Thursday!! It was parked right behind my van, in other words my van was blocked in by this Person who felt themselves to be so special that they could override my personal property rights so they wouldn't have to walk a few extra steps!
My first impulse was to cross the street, locate the guilty party and drag them to their vehicle to move it to an appropriate place. However, my repect for others in the vacinity at that particular time prevented me from participating in such a scene.
Several other thoughts crossed my mind before the offending party decided to come to my driveway and remove the obstruction they had placed in my way.
Quite frankly I had never before pondered what I might do if such a situation would occur, I never imagine anyone would so blatantly and publically disregard the law. The law that gives property owners the right to the use of their own driveway.
Now that the unimaginable has occurred I have had the oppertunity to give it some thought. And I suggest the rest of the community give it some thought as well, because you never know when someone might decide to park in your driveway, I am telling you there is at least one person in the community that won't be bothered by the fact that obstructing a private driveway is illegal. And besides that in Blue Hill, who are you going to report such a crime to? There is no doubt about it, this is a criminal act. No law enforcement available in Blue Hill! Go ahead, do as you please!
By the way, if you want to park in my drive way and won't be bothered to get permission, be aware, I now have a Plan!

The person parking in your driveway is by all rights trespassing on your property. Accordingly, you have the right to move the obstruction by any means necessary.
