Hastings resident, Leola J. Wiest passed away Monday, November 30, 2009 at Perkins Pavillion, Good Samaritan Society Hastings Village.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday December 4, at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery at Blue Hill at 3 p.m. There will be no visitation as she was cremated. Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral home & Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to First St. Paul's Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Alzheimer's Association.

Leola was born on December 24, 1930 to Fred and Fannie (Alberts) Waechter on a farm near Blue Hill in Webster County, Nebraska. On January 25, 1931, Leola was received into the Lutheran Church by the sacrament of holy baptism . After having been duly instructed in the doctrines of the Christian religion Leola waas received into full communion with St. Paul's Lutheran Church in blue Hill, Nebraska by the rite of confirmation on April 2, 1944. Leola attended various rural schools through the eighth grade and graduated from Blue HIll High School in 1948. Following graduation she worked at various jobs in and around Blue Hill. On October 24, 1954 Leola and Melvin Wiest were united in marriage. To this union were born three children, Gary, Pat and Julie. In May 1975 Leola and her family moved to Hastins to make their home. The move was made because her husband, Melvin found work with Adams County.
Survivors include husband, Melvin Wiest of Hastings, Ne. Children and spouses, Gary and Natalie Wiest of Tampa, FL, Pat Schnegelberger of Olathe, KS, Julie and Larry Lace of Hastings, NE, grandchildren and spouces, Kristen Wiest of Denver CO, Tyler Wiest of Huston, TX, Nina Schnegelberger of Olathe, KS, Justin and Tammy Schnegelberger of Olathe, KS. Kelsy Lace of Hastings, NE, twins kCody and Casey Lace of Hastings, NE, great-grandson, Cade Schnegelberger of Olathe, KS. Great-granddaughter, Kyle Eppler of Olathe, KS; brother Kenneth Waechter of Lakewood, CO, sister Burnelda Pearson of Englewood, CO and many nieces and nephews.
