Mary Irene Hesman, 91, of Blue Hill died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church, Rosemont, with the Revs. Ron Kuehner and Rod Armon officiating. Private family burial will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery at Blue Hill.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. .
Mrs. Hesman was born Aug. 30, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo., to Martin Meents and Martha Stumpenhorst.
She graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1940. She married Fred P. Hesman on Sept. 20, 1940, at Hastings. She was a homemaker and sold Avon for 51 years. She loved being around and doing things with her family, loved quilting and never met a stranger.
Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Fred, of Grand Island; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Keith Kirstine of Lincoln; four sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and Jean Hesman of Hastings, Robert and Shearld Hesman of Bladen, Neil and Judy Hesman of Grand Island, Wayne and Janelle Hesman of Doniphan; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty Meents of Corning, Calif., Mildred and Lyle Mason of Castle Rock, Colo., Jan and Ken Zimmerman of Blue Hill; a brother and sister-in-law, Evart and Shirley Barton of Blue Hill; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Evart and Martha Barton; father, Martin Meents; two sisters, Ann Nitzel and Dorothy Barton; one brother, Ernie Meents; two brothers-in-law, Keith Meents and Ern Nitzel; one granddaughter, Patricia Ann Hesman; and one great-granddaughter, Bethany Hope Hesman.
A memorial has been established.
