Robert Benjamin Shaw, the fifhteenth child of Anna (Yohe) and Elsworth Shaw, was born May 13, 1929 on a farm north of Bostwick, Nebraska. He departed this life on January 4, 2013 at his home in Blue Hill, Nebraska.
Bob, as he was know by all who knew him, grew up in the Guide Rock community after the death of his father. He was active in sports in high school and had many stories to tell.
He was united in marriage with Joan Stoner on August 27, 1951. Shortly after he was sent to Korea to serve his country as a United States Marine. Upon his return, the couple remained in Guide Rock to make their home. This union was blessed with two children, Robin ViAnn and Kim Lee.
Bob was the Postmaster at Guide Rock for 34 years, endearing many friends. He was a member of the Guide Rock United Methodist Church and served as treasurer for over 20 years. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club, the Guide Rock Cemetery Board, the V.F.W. and American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, taking care of the house, building furniture, and spent a lot of time fishing with his family. He especially enjoyed the weekday ritual of playing cards with the "gang" at the Barcelona Cafe.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Kim of Axtell, Nebraska; his daughter, Robin, of Grand Island, Nebraska; granddaughter Mandi Shaw and great grandson Ajani of Denver, Colorado; grandson Kristopher Shaw and wife Tara and great granddaughters Alaysa and Addisyn of Gibbobn, Nebraska; grandson, Benjamin Shaw of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives from his large family, all of whom he dearly loved.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., January 8, 2013 at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud with the Rev. James Witt officiating. Interment will be at the Guide Rock Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday and Monday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

I looked up to Bob when I was growing up in G.R. One of the best football players that ever came out of G.R.
I will alway remember him as a good friend.
