Landlord/Tenant Workshop in Blue Hill November 13

Do you as a landlord feel that you are not receiving enough money for your cash rent? Do you as a tenant worry about how you will be able to afford to pay rent when yields are poor and/or prices drop? How does the drought of 2012 change farmland and pasture rental rates?
Answers to these and other land lease questions will be provided at the Landlord/Tenant Cash Lease workshop that will be held in Blue Hill on Tuesday, November 13 at the Blue Hill Community Center from 5:30-9:00 p.m. with registration starting at 5:00 a.m. The main purpose of these workshops is to help with establishing and maintaining positive farm leasing relationships. This is a continuation of a successful well received program attended by over 800 producers and landlords last year.
Topics for discussion include: 1) Expectations from the lease, including goal setting for the rental property; 2) Lease communication, determining appropriate information sharing for both the tenant and landlord; 3) Relatives – tips for farm leases that include relatives; 4) Alternative cash lease arrangements, flexible provision considerations for your situation and 5) Other topics, like irrigation systems and grain bin rental will be covered as time allows.
UNL Extension Educators will present on these topics and provide common sense tips during the presentation. It is very helpful if both the tenant and landlord can attend together. Putting together the right lease isn’t about what is being discussed at the coffee shop or what a University survey of cash lease rates says; it is about what fits both the landlord and tenant for their circumstance and situation. Attending this presentation will provide a set of ideas to work from as those specifics are discussed.
This free workshop is sponsored by the Nebraska Soybean Board, the North Central Risk Management Agency and University of Nebraska Lincoln Extension. The workshop, meal and handouts are provided but participation is limited, so you will need to register to reserve your spot by contacting the Webster County UNL Extension Office with your RSVP by 4:00 pm on Friday, November 9th. Walk-ins are welcome, but meals will be reserved for those that pre-register. To register, please call (402) 746-3417 or via email at  dlienemann2@unl.edu   or ckumke2@unl.edu.   A flyer is available at www.webster.unl.edu .
