Lt. Gov. Sheehy Previews 2012 Nebraska Infrastructure Protection Conference
(Lincoln, Neb.) Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy announced the line-up for the 2012 Nebraska Infrastructure Protection Conference (NIPC). Nebraska businesses, private industry and non-profit representatives are encouraged to participate in the conference taking place Tuesday and Wednesday, March 27 - 28, at the LaVista Conference Center, located at 12520 Westport Pkwy.
“The conference brings together government and industry representatives to provide an update on Nebraska’s emergency planning initiatives,” Lt. Gov. Sheehy said, who serves as director of homeland security for Nebraska. “We want our business community to plan ahead for emergencies that can impact their operations. This event is an opportunity for private sector and nonprofit leaders to access information that is helpful in preparing business continuity plans.”
The NIPC agenda will include a presentation from the FBI on the Mumbai attacks. Following that presentation, a panel of representatives from the FBI, Nebraska Information Analysis Center, US Attorney’s Office and the Department of Homeland Security will also give an intelligence briefing.
A session led by Keith Walter, Engineering Facility Management System Director of Union Pacific Railroad will speak about lessons learned from the 2011 Nebraska flooding. Jeff Weeks, Vice President and Chief Information Security Office of First National Bank will give a presentation on Cyber Security and how what we do at home can impact the workplace.
Day two of the conference will focus on security. This will include presentations on gang activity, active shooter/armed intruder information, customs and border patrol and lessons learned from current events.
Started in 2005, the Nebraska Infrastructure Protection Conference provides information that helps businesses and organizations protect critical infrastructure. It is hosted by the Lt. Governor and U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska Deborah Gilg, and is coordinated by the Center for Preparedness Education in Nebraska.
This conference is open to anyone interested in the issues facing organizations in preparing for large scale emergencies. A $175 registration fee covers participation in the Nebraska Infrastructure Protection Conference, and registration is available online at www.nipc.us.
