Norman E. Jordening July 22, 1923 to February 8, 2014


Norman E. Jordening, 90, Blue Hill, Nebraska died Saturday, February 8, 2014, at the Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, Nebraska.
Services are Wednesday, February 12, 2014, 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska with Rev. Joshua Lowe Officiating.
Burial with Military Rites by A.L. Shirley Post #176 of Blue Hill, Nebraska will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska.
 Memorials can be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 11, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Merten-Butler Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church.

Norman was born on July 22, 1923, to Conrad and Alvina (Drees) Jordening near Daykin, Nebraska.  In 1936, Norman was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.
 He graduated from Daykin High School in 1940. 
After being inducted into the U. S. Army on April 4, 1945, he served as an member of the Military Police with the 300 Military Police Company in Fort Myers, Virginia near Washington, D.C.
 He was discharged from the army on October 6, 1946. 
On February 15, 1948 he married Mildreth H. Bartels at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Daykin, Nebraska.  To this union four children were born. 
In 1950 Norman bought the Blacksmith Shop in Daykin.
In 1958 he moved with his family to Blue Hill and purchased a Machine Shop. 
In 1973 he started Norm's catfish business and raised catfish commercially. 
He worked for Metz Bakery for 11 years before retiring. 
After retirement he started his own coupling business.
 In his spare time he enjoyed watching the car races, fishing, painting and woodturning.
Norman was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on the school Board and was a past member of the Lutheran Layman's league.  He was also a member of A.L. Shirley Post #176 of the American Legion in Blue Hill, Nebraska.
Norman Jordening is survived by his wife, Mildreth, his daughter Linda (Rex) George, North Platte, Nebraska, Donn (Cheri) Jordening of Hastings, Nebraska, Terry (Kay) Jordening of Blue Hill; two brothers Martin (Evelyn) Jordening  and Leo Jordening, all of Fairbury, Nebraska,  a brother in law Eldo (Laverne) Bartels, Western, Nebraska and sister-in-law, Ada Nolte , Beatrice Nebraska.  Four grand children, Kyle George, North Platte, Nebraska, Mindy (Jeff) Faimon, Alma, Nebraska Tyson (Nikki) Jordening, Juniata, Nebraska , and Trenton Jordening, Blue Hill, Nebraska three great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anna Alvina Lisette Drees was the 5th of 12 children born to August Heinrich and Anna Margarethe Ilsabein (Roehr)Drees, on their farm in Jefferson County, Nebraska near Daykin.

Obituary:
Mrs. Conrad Jordening of Daykin, Neb., died Sunday, July 24, 1966, at the Jefferson County Memorial hospital in Fairbury at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 26 days.
Alvina was born at Daykin, Neb., on October 28, 1889 to August Drees sr and Anna Roher [sic] Drees. She was baptized Nov. 10. 1889 at St. John Lutheran church at Dayking by Rev. Buechsenstein and on March 27, 1904 was confirmed there by Rev. G. Schulz.
She was married to Conrad Jordening on April 3, 1913 by Rev. J. Vonderlinden at St. John's church and to them five children were born. The Jordenings also had the privilege of rearing a niece.
The couple lived in Jefferson county all their life and were members of Immanuel Lutheran church, east of Daykin, for 45 years before joining St. John Lutheran church.
Survivors include her husband, Conrad; five sons, Edwin of Beatrice, Norman of Blue Hill; Raymond, Martin and Leo of Fairbury; Mrs. Joe Cude of Los Angeles, the former Nora Bringewatt who was reared in the home; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, sisters Clara Vorderstrasse of Plymouth, Minnie Lucking of Fairbury, Lena Ebke of Daykin, and Martha Ebke of Jansen, and brothers, August Drees of Daykin, and Bill and Ted Drees, both of Garden City, Kas.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters, Louise Marshman and Mary Bringewatt, two brothers, John and George Drees and one grandchild, Lynn Jordening.
Funeral services were Wednesday after noon at St. John Lutheran church in Daykin with Pastor Paul D. Sorlien officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery east of Daykin.

Conrad was the last of the six children born to Heinrich Conrad Jordening (b. 12 Aug 1845 in Gross Nenndorf, Schaumburg, Germany; d. 24 Jul 1903) and Catharina Sophia Kastening (b. 12 Dec. 1849 in Ludersfeld, Germany; d. 26 Mar 1947).

Conrad Jordening of Daykin, Neb. died Sept. 9, 1966 at Jefferson County Memorial hospital, Fairbury, Neb., at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 25 days.
The son of Conrad Jordening sr [sic] and Sophie Kastening Jordening, he was born July 15, 1887. On Aug. 4, 1998, he was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran church, Plymouth, by Rev. Lange and was confirmed March 31, 1901 by Rev. Sturble.
On April 3, 1913, he was married to Alvina Drees in St. John's Lutheran church by Rev. J. Vonderlinden. The couple had five children and also had the privilege of rearing a niece.
He lived in Jefferson county all his life and for 45 years was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church, five miles east of Daykin, before joining St. John's Lutheran church in Daykin.
Surviving are five sons, Edwin of Beatrice, Norman of Blue Hill, Raymond, Martin and Leo of Fairbury; also Mrs. Joe Cuda, the former Nora Bringewatt, who was reared in the Jordening home; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and one sister, Mrs. Lena Ochs of California.
His wife, parents, two brothers, two sisters, and one grandchild preceded him in death.
Funeral services were Sept. 11 at St. John Lutheran church, Daykin, with Rev. Paul D. Sorlien officiating. Interment in the church cemetery.
