Governor and First Lady to Host Holiday Open House at Governor's Residence

 

 
(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman and First Lady Sally Ganem extend an invitation to Nebraskans for an open house event to celebrate the holiday season on Sunday, December 8 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. CT. The holiday open house at the Governor’s Residence will follow the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in the State Capitol Rotunda.
“This is a great opportunity for Nebraskans to visit and see the home when it is decorated for the holidays,” said First Lady Ganem. “Please join us for the Governor’s Residence holiday open house.”
In addition to the open house, the Governor and First Lady will help light the State Capitol Christmas Tree on Sunday, Dec. 8. The ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. CT.
The Governor’s Residence is located at 1425 H St. in Lincoln, directly south of the State Capitol. The modified Georgian Colonial home was built in 1957, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
The First Lady’s cookbook, Inspired Recipes from Nebraska, will be available for purchase at the open house proceeds go to the Friends of the Governor’s Residence, a foundation that funds updates to the residence and provides educational materials on the home to school-age visitors.
The Residence is open to public tours on most Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m., excluding state holidays. Reservations are recommended for large groups and for school tours.
