Two Trucks collide on Highway 281

Tuesday morning the Adams County Sheriff's Office, Hastings Fire and Rescue, Hastings Rural Fire Department and Nebraska State Patrol were called to the scene of a  two-semitrailer truck collision  The accident sent  one driver to Mary Lanning Hospital.
A  R lazy K semi truck was traveling on the spur that turns east onto State Highway 74 while the second semi, a "dead wagon" was southbound on U.S. Highway 281 ten miles south of Hastings, or two miles east of Ayr. The eastbound semi, loaded with distiller's grain, pulled out to cross the highway about 10:43 a.m. and collided with the southbound semi.

The impact caused the dead wagon, which was not hauling a load, to skid toward the driver's side and roll  about 60 feet past the crossing.  The truck then jack-knifed and rolled onto its top, with the driver trapped inside. The wheels were knocked off the truck and ended up beside the truck
The driver of the dead wagon was hanging upside down in the truck cab secured by the seat belt. After the belt was cut, the driver was removed from the cab. He was taken by ambulance to Mary Lanning Healthcare,

The front end of the R Lazy K eastbound semi loaded with wet cake  was destroyed in the collision, but the driver of that truck was not injured.
