Governor's ResidenceGovernor and First Lady to Host Holiday Open House at Governor's Residence

(Lincoln, Neb.) Governor Heineman and First Lady Sally Ganem extend an invitation for Nebraskans interested in attending an open house event to celebrate the holiday season on Sunday, December 9 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. CT following the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Capitol.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for any citizen to visit and see the home when it is decorated for the holidays,” said Ganem. “Please join us for the Governor’s Residence holiday open house.”
In addition to the open house, the Governor and First Lady will help light the State Capitol Christmas Tree on Sunday, Dec. 9. The ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. CT.
The Governor’s Residence is located at 1425 H St. in Lincoln, directly south of the State Capitol. The modified Georgian Colonial home was built in 1957, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
The First Lady’s cookbook, Inspired Recipes from Nebraska, will be available for purchase at the open house. Proceeds go to the Friends of the Governor’s Residence, a foundation that funds updates to the residence and provides educational materials on the home to school-age visitors.
The residence is open to public tours on most Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m., excluding state holidays. Reservations are recommended for large groups and for school tours.
A virtual tour of the house and more information on the Nebraska Governor’s Residence is available online at www.governorsresidence.ne.gov.
