WASHINGTON –Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) today issued the following statement after the Department of Labor (DoL) withdrew an out-of-touch proposal designed to limit youth involvement in agriculture:
“Withdrawing this illogical rule is good news for families involved with agriculture and future generations of farmers and ranchers,” Johanns said. “It took a while, but I'm glad common-sense finally prevailed. I hope this isn't an isolated incident and will carry over to other overly burdensome regulations proposed by this Administration.”Last September, the Obama Administration’s DoL issued a draft rule that would ban those under the age of 16 from working on a farm or ranch not owned by their parents – preventing young people from gaining the valuable, first-hand experience Nebraskans have for generations.
