James Stanley McBride July 25, 1926 to March 30, 2012

MINDEN - James Stanley McBride, 85, of Minden died Friday, March 30, 2012, in the Long Term Care Unit at Kearney County Health Services in Minden.
Services were  at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Minden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nancy Lambert officiating. Burial will be later at Minden Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden.
He was born July 25, 1926, in Blue Hill to J.R. and Isabel (Chaplin) McBride.
He married Pamela Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Pam; children, Karen Flesner and her husband, Rod, of North Platte, Brian McBride and his wife, Ellie, of Glendale, Ariz., Linda Novacek and her husband, Darrell, of Norfolk, David of Beaumont, Texas, and Deb Thramer and her husband, Tim, of Blue Hill; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Dick McBride and his wife, Kay Lyn, of Minden.
He was the oldest child in his family. He grew up in Blue Hill and moved to Minden in 1940, where he graduated from Minden High School in 1944. He entered the U.S. Navy upon graduation. He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946. He briefly attended the University of Nebraska. He returned to Minden where he worked at the Ford dealership.
He met Pamela Mason while she was visiting her uncle in Minden. The couple married and made a honeymoon trip to her home in England. He soon pursued his interest in farming and moved his young family to a small farmhouse southwest of Axtell, later moving to a larger home west of town.
Health issues forced him to quit farming, and he began a career in real estate. He eventually established McBride Realty, which he operated until again his health forced his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Peterson; and brother, Bob McBride.
