The Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) and U.S. Bank recently named its January Believers & Achievers. This program recognizes youth involved in NSAA activities.
Michaela Schlesinger, daughter of Mary Hartman Schlesinger, a senior at Blue Hill public schools, was selected as a Believer and Achiever for January.
Believers and Achievers is a state-wide program designed by U.S. Bank and the NSAA to give recognition to Nebraska's future leaders based on cumulative grade point average. NSAA activity participation, activity honors and awards, school involvement, and community involvement. The Believers and Achievers award is presented to six seniors each month from October through May; those individuals are recognized with an award at a state contest during the fall, winter, or spring activity season. All 48 Believers and Achievers will be invited to attend an end-of-the-year banquet in June at which time eight individuals will be presented with a $500 scholarship to the college or university of their choice.
Seniors who receive this award must be nominated by the high school principal or guidance counselor, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 on an unweighted 4.0 scale, and participate in NSAA sponsored activities
Michaela Schlesinger, has a grade point average of 3.96 (on a 4.0 scale) She is involved in softball and track & field. Her honors include 2011 NSAA academic All-state Track and Field and Softball; softball and track and field letter winner. School involvement Member of the National Honor Society, and Big Brothers and Big sisters, Power Hour elementry school tutor, and middle school algebra tutor, Red ribbon week volunteer. Community involvement ; art club, public library children's book mural artist, 2011 Nebraska State Art qualifier.
Other January winners from across the state are: Madeline Baltzer, Fillmore Central; Olivia Borer, Pope John; Deep Desai, Lexington; Bradley Meusch, David City; and Kimberly Ruskamp, Dodge.
