Guide Rock resident Marvin A. Schutte, 70, of Canon City, Colo., died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Canon City, Colo.
A prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday March 7, 2014 at the Simonson-Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday March 8, 2014 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rosemont with the Rev. Ronald Kuehner and Rev. Paul Dunbar officiating. With his wife and children by his side, Marvin Alfred Schutte went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2014, after a short illness.
Marvin was born on August 5, 1944 on a farm near Guide Rock, NE to Alfred and Hildred (Bangert) Schutte. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church on August 27, 1944 and was confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rosemont, NE in 1958. His confirmation verse was John 6:68: "Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life."
Marvin attended Eckley School until they consolidated with Guide Rock Public School. He graduated in 1962. He left the family farm and moved to Lincoln, NE where he attended Business College and studied computers. He was drafted into the Army in 1965 and was stationed in Vietnam for one year during his tour of duty.
Marvin spent his working career in the banking industry. In March 2012, he retired from Dickinson Financial Corp in Kansas City, Mo where he ran the computer operations for 150 banks across the US and moved to Canon City, Co where he resided at the time of his death.
In 1970 Marvin married Virginia Dewaele. They had 3 sons, Rodney Schutte (Debbie) of Gering, NE, Ryan Schutte and Russell Schutte(Roka) both of Denver, Co.
On April 5, 2003 Marvin married the love of his life, Cindy Manzanares. With that union he increased his children to six. Raquelle Frenchman(Ken) of Rye, NY, Patricio Manzanares (Kirise) of Coopersburg, PS and Jeanenne Wagner(Jeff) of Canon City, Co.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife Cindy, sons Rodney, Ryan, Russell, and Patricio, daughters Raquelle and Jeanenne and their families and special child Marcus Winegartner, sister-in-law Norma Schutte of Kearney, NE, sister Marjorie Martin(Jerry) of Acton, CA, sister Kay Schutte of Hastings, NE, brother Ron Schutte(Nancy) of Guide Rock, NE, sister Merilee Wood, of San Antonio, Tx, sister-in-law Clarine Woods (Doug) of Manhattan, KS, sister-in-law Milana Root(Randy) of Colorado Springs, Co, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 great great childchild and his in-laws John and Opal Newman of Pueblo West, Co whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Ann Schutte, brother Garry Schutte, sister Janice Shambaugh, and brother-in-law Dallas Shambaugh and their twin daughters, Patty and Pamela, nephew Benjamin Schutte and brother Allen Schutte.
Marvin was a gentle, kind and giving person. He never failed to help someone in need and many times would do it anonymously. He loved working in the yard, working with his hands and following the stock market. He loved art and music and loved going to concerts and museums. But most of all he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. In the last year of his life, he was able to live close to his grandson, Cash Wagner, and loved seeing him grow. It brought great joy and comfort to his life.
Marvin has several charities that were special to him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family and will be disbursed to his favorite charities.
