Hastings College had 217 undergraduates cross the stage with 16 Master of Arts in Teaching graduates at its 125th Commencement ceremony held Saturday, May 21 in Lynn Farrell Arena at Hastings College.
Retiring Hastings College President Dr. Phillip Dudley, Jr., was the Commencement speaker. Baccalaureate service was on Friday, May 20, at First Presbyterian Church in Hastings.
Three Hastings College retirees received honorary doctorate degrees; Dr. Phillip Dudley, Jr., retiring Hastings College President, received an honorary Doctor of Business Administration degree; Dr. Kathleen Haverly, retiring Learning Center Director, received an honorary Doctor of Education degree; and Dr. James Wiest, retiring Vice President for Academic Affairs, received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.Graduate honors, which are limited to the top 12 percent of the undergraduate class, were awarded to 26 seniors. An additional 69 seniors were cited for distinction in their departmental studies.
High distinction is awarded to seniors who have earned a 3.85 to 4.0 grade point average in their major area of study. Distinction is awarded to seniors with at least a 3.7 grade point average in their major.
