The Blue Hill Volunteer Fire Department was called out Tuesday afternoon to a fire in Charlie Pavelka's corn stalks near Blue Hill. Approximately six members of the department responded to the call. The fire was caused by a over heated bearing in a combine owned by Pavelka. Sparks from the over heated bearing ignited corn stalks. Approximately 15 acres of corn stalks were burned. The corn in the field had already been harvested.
The extremely dry weather conditions have contributed to several fires calls to the Blue Hill volunteer department in the last weeks.
