Seriously Porter, STOP yelling at the kids and start coaching and be POSITIVE so the kids WANT to play.. oh wait, you don't know how to coach because Mike Hastings is not there.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one that has noticed the poor coaching from Porter. We as parents need to take a stand and protect our children. Anyone that was at the Southern Valley game saw the way that Porter attacked Parker Trumble after the interception. As we all saw there were a lot of contributing factors to that interception, one being the fact that Parker has not been allowed to play varsity football until that night. The varsity position has been reserved for the “boy in the basement”. And yes the varsity QB has thrown many interceptions, but never have I heard such an outburst directed at him.
For the past several years we have been very lucky to have Coach Hastings and Coach Faimon. Now that they have moved on we are left with Porter. . I have talked to many of the players and I know there is very little respect for Porter. Respect is something that is earned and he has not earned it.
I have gone to the administration with my concerns, and I would hope that the rest of you do the same. We (the community of Blue Hill and our kids) have a great reputation for football. We still have the talent to be successful, but with Porter, that can’t happen. As a parent you know this is true so join with other parents to help us put an end to the downward spiral.

Is anyone else tired of hearing about “Porters record”? Lets take a look at his record, did he ever win a game before he got to Blue Hill? NO The record he so proudly takes credit for was earned by athletes who attended school at Blue Hill and coaches Hastings and Faimon. If he wants a record of his own go somewhere else and do it. Good luck.

You people think you can do a better job? Stop yelling at Porter and start cheering for the kids. That's what being a fan is really about.

Yes, there are many of us who feel we could do a better job than Porter. (Don't ask the question if you don't want the answer.)
Some of us are as concerned about being responsible parents as we are about being good fans.
Being a responsible parent means seeing to it that those we entrust with the instruction of our children are decent people, that they hold themselves to the same standards they expect of their students.
Parents who don't speak up when they become aware of wrong doing by those entrusted to educate our children are themselves guilty of showing their children that it is acceptable behavior.
The boys on the team have always had the support of the "fans". Blue Hill historically has had loyal and dedicated fans who follow and support the team where ever and when ever they go. The fans care so much about the team that they want them to have the very best coaching available. That doesn't mean they have to turn a blind eye to wrong doing.

You really think that you could do better? Blue Hill has one of the top defenses in C-2 and that is what Porter coaches. He has nothing to do with what the offense does. And also its not his decision to have Hoyt start at quarterback so don't be pinning that on him. He yells at the kids because he believes they are not reaching their full potential. He knows what they are capable of and doesn't want them to be satisfied with where they are at. Yes, what he did to Parker in the Southern Valley game was unnecessary but he has yelled at Hoyt before too. It's not just a few kids that he yells at, just the ones who aren't playing as well as he knows they can.

I lost respect of Coach Porter the year that these Senior boys were Freshman. It was at the end of the Southwest game when he was more worried about keeping them out of the endzone when we were up 32-0 than getting all the reserves in including the freshman to gain experience in varisity football. When I played my coach would always have the reserves in when the team was up by 28 points or more even if it was in the first half. That is what coaching is all about. To me what he was doing was looking out for himself to make him look good for further references. Oh, by the way, If I remember right, he did get a penalty for unsportsmanlike yelling to the refs that Southwest couldn't of scored on the goal line when he was 20 yards down the field and the refs were on the goal line. That would be a coach that I would want to play for. Ha Ha! Wrong answer

Porter is a good coach. Anyone who knows football will see that. I am surprised he hasn't moved on to better things. These are High School boys. If they can't take getting yelled at don't play. Same crap happened in basketball and now a good coach is gone. Be careful what you ask for. We have a good coach.

Did you tell Porter that he has nothing to do with the offense of the team of which he is HEAD COACH? Does he know that he has nothing to say about who plays Quarterback? Seems to me it just might be you don't know what you are talking about if you say such things. just saying. . . .

Wait A good coach is gone in basketball? He was good at teaching the kids fundamentals and the game of basketball. The leadership starts with the coach and the picking of individuals out and yelling and screaming is not coaching. You can be a great athlete but that don't mean your a great coach. A coach needs to have the right personality in order to get respect from the kids. A coach can yell encouragingly by making the student athlete understand what they did wrong and to get better, but when a coach yells and screams when things don't happen the way they're suppose to, the student athletes lose all respect for that coach. A good team with a good coach, everything clicks between players and coaches, and this was not seen in basketball and also in football.

The post on Oct. 18 has it right. I could tell during the Ravenna game that Porter was trying harder to be a coach. I only hope that it is not too late. Many of the student athletes have lost all respect for him, he will have to work extra hard to build that respect now.
There is still a lot of question about some of Porters player choices. I hope he can overlook his pride and do what is best for the team.

Ya one of the questionable player choices is a 115 pound 10th grader that has not shown us anything all year. While he plays the 2nd leading tackler of last years season sits on the bench. Look at the stats. Go figure.

Dear, Parents and Fans of Blue Hill Football

Where to start! Coming from a Blue Hill alumni and somebody that has played for in my eyes one of the best football coaches ever, and that is includes college football as well. I have been to a few games this season and what I have seen is not a coaching problem it’s an attitude and work ethic problem of the players. I am not saying that every one of the kids is not trying or is a bad kid. Yes, I understand that I have not been to all the games and seen all of the things that have happened that everyone thinks is wrong, but the ones that I have been to I have noticed a lot of opportunities for a play to be successful but the players are not doing there part to make it happen. (For example, dropping passes, not rapping up on a tackle, getting beat on a coverage, blocking the wrong person, and etc…) Now I know you will say that this is not the kid’s fault and the coaches for not coaching right. WRONG!! There was a reason that when I was in high school we went to state 3 years in a row with one of the smallest offence and defense lines in the state, and all around one of the smaller teams in the state. We were taught how to play football the right way and were willing to do anything for a win. The coaches have not changed there style of coaching that much for anyone to say that they do not know what they are doing, I have been around practices before and have seen things with my own two eyes. So if you want to call me a liar then go head because I will prove you wrong.

I know how to play football, and the fundamentals that go along with it. When I left Blue Hill to play for UNK they didn’t teach fundaments you better have known them already. Those fundamentals were taught to me by the Blue Hill coaching staff, not by the parents that think they know everything there is to know about football. I like how you can tell somebody that has brought a lot of success to a program over the years to leave and go somewhere else, because I would like to see you get out there and do it yourself; then we will see how many games they win. Yes, I understand that past coaches are not there anymore, but Coach Porter did not rely on them for everything. It’s called a team for a reason to work together. You might say he is yelling too much, but maybe the kids just need their butts ripped so they learn from their mistakes. When I was playing yes we got yelled at, but we never had to get yelled at about the same thing over and over again, we fixed our mistakes right away. The moral of the story is I will stand behind Coach Porter and his staff. I can also guaranty that the he is playing the kids that need to be playing to win! A Coach is only a fraction of a team, the players make up the rest, so maybe they should work harder in the summer and stay after they are released by the coach for summer workouts to work on the little things that will make them better. Our team did and we did win state. If you think that I am targeting any one person or player I am not, I am just standing up for what is right and standing behind a coach that deserves our support!!! Now that you are in the playoffs its time to give a 110%, because you are a good team and can go far!

Thank you,

Cody Karr

Also as alumni, I see the team might not have the passion and drive that the past years have had, but they still are working hard. They do have summer workouts, and I was told by some of the players that when they went the coaches weren’t always there. I don’t understand how a coach can tell players to be there, but then the coach doesn’t show up. That is not good coaching. The coach sets the mood of the team for work ethic. The kids on the team now saw how the teams before them worked hard, but when you have coaches that don’t show up to team events that doesn’t show good leadership. And leadership starts with the coach. I don’t think the coaches now have the right attitude towards the kids as they did a couple years ago. The coaches were blessed with players that had the drive and the right attitude to win that the coaches didn’t have to push them into working in the off season. When the coaches tell the kids that if you go to these summer workouts and camps that you will play during the season, then they don’t follow through with those promises, then the players will stop working out during the summer. This team has the right players to win some games in the playoffs, but they need the right coaching and guidance to make that happen. The coaches at Blue Hill have always been known to play their favorites, and if they play the players that are the best for that time in the game they will see improvement.

The coaching staff also had the support of the parents during that period. The parents didn't complain about all these things either. When the players see that their parents respect the coaching and decisions they will learn respect. When they see disrespect from their parents they too learn disrespect. Enough of the blaming, support your coaches and players and be encouraging instead of discouraging. Enough is enough, what do you think this negativity brings? Absolutely nothing good is coming from this. You tell the coaches to stop yelling at the players, how about the negative fans? Stop yelling at the players yourself, you even go so far as to name the player. These negative words are distracting not only to other fans but to the players themselves. I can say right now I am ashamed of being a Blue Hill fan, not because of our players and coaches but of our fans. These words you yell can be heard by the opposing team and when on the radio, on the radio. How does that make our school and community look?

First off....players should wanna be in the weightroom for summer workouts---thats called a work ethic. Not so sure, but do all parents really think Coach Porter needs to be in the weightroom with their kid each and every time little Billy is getting ready to bench or squat? Uh no...little Billy needs to WANT to get in their to do it so he is able to compete with other athletes from different schools. So parents...instead of whining every season the Blue Hill Bobcats arent 12-0....maybe go out there and teach the kids something about work ethic, respect, never giving up, etc.

My "little Billy" showed up every single day this past summer and there were several times that "little Billy" stood out in the parking lot waiting for a "Coach" to show up and open the weight room. Also, "My little Billy" went to summer workouts every single day and was told by the "Coach" that attendance would be taken and those "little Billys" that did NOT show up would not be allowed to play with the others come regular season. Even though my "little Billy" showed up and never missed a day, the "little Billys" that DID NOT show a "WORK ETHIC" are out on the field. Get your story straight or know what is really going on before posting.

Just because your kid showed up to the weight room and for summer work outs doesn't mean he is going to play. Just accept the fact that your kid isn't very athletically gifted and move on. Stop taking it out on the coaching staff because it isn't their fault. I'm sure it's tough to swallow, but it's time to grow up and stop making yourself look like an idiot.

And about the yelling at the kids....The coaches aren't yelling at the kids to ridicule them or put them down. They are yelling at them because they know the true potential of that individual and the coach wants them to play up to that potential. In my junior year at Blue Hill, between football and basketball, I was yelled at by coaching staff probably more than any other student athlete. How did I respond to that? Not by going home and wining to my parents, but by understanding that the coaching staff wanted nothing more than for me to be the best student athlete that I could possibly be. Understanding that fueled me to work harder in practice and in the off season to get better. So, the next time you see a coach yelling at a kid, understand that the coach is not ridiculing the kid, but simply that the coach knows the incredible potential that is there and wants nothing more than that potential to come out.
